On Sunday 29 March, 600 teachers attended the Darling Harbour Educators’ Open Day – were you one of them?

Accompanying family & friends, each of whom received a discount or in some cases free admission, totalled another 1000 people!

With free entry for all teachers on the day to a host of fantastic educational venues and services – including Sydney Aquarium, the National Maritime Museum, Powerhouse Museum, Sydney Wildlife World, Chinese Gardens, IMAX Theatre and Monorail - the Open Day has become a popular addition to teachers’ calendars.

The inaugural Open Day for teachers was held in 2007 and it poured with rain, making the addition of the Monorail’s umbrella’s in show bags a very handy item indeed! A little bit of rain doesn’t dampen a day a Darling Harbour – about 450 teachers joined in with the festivities.

This year by contrast, the sun was shining all day long and everyone was treated to a delightful day visiting new exhibitions ranging from the magical Dugongs at Sydney Aquarium’s Mermaid Lagoon to The Powerhouse Museum’s Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination.

There are options for teachers to extend the Open Day to preview Educational Tours at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Ultimo Centre (call 8333 5488 for mid-week media bookings until November 1) and Sydney Learning Adventures (call 9240 8552 for bookings on Wed 22 April for teachers only).
