Star Trek Reviewed

The world premiere of Star Trek was held at Sydney's Opera House and some of the first reviews are in!

Star Trek opens at the IMAX Theatre in Darling Harbour on May 7.

"A stupendous production, Star Trek goes where no movie sequel or prequel has gone before in bringing intelligence and invention to a peak in cinematic storytelling. Starting with the well constructed and clearly delineated screenplay, director J. J. Abrams and his team manage to capture the essence of what is familiar at the same time refreshing it. The familiar in every sense, from the production design, which echoes with the original but has not a whiff of staleness about it, to the spot perfect casting, which reminds us but does not ape the well known and loved original cast."
Andrew, L. Urban, Urban Cinefile

"J.J. Abrams has made a fabulous film that excels in all its elements. While it feels fresh in every way (an achievement in itself, for this 11th Star Trek film), great care has been taken to be respectful of the franchise and the characters created by Gene Roddenberry in the 60s, when they became cult favourites. Technically, everything stacks up. The sound and the sound mix is superb and rivals the extraordinary visuals for attention. Script - tick. Casting - tick. Direction - tick. Special effects - tick. It's an extraordinary achievement and great entertainment for all as we partake in an edge-of-seat thrill-ride."

I was there and it was a phenomenal night - the Opera House was a fantastic venue for a World Premiere and the movie was deserving of being there. Wasn't disappointed in any way whatsoever - I love the original crew, but the new guys did a sterling job and not once did I regret the opportunity of renewing the franchise with them.

Yes, I was there as well!! I originnally just showed up for the red carpet and by the kindness of a very nice stranger gave me tickets to see the movie on the SPOT!!! I couldnt believe it and raced to the doors of the Opera House, got in and had a great time seeing the film. But I had ALWAYS planned to see it on IMAX the weekned it comes out before I got the chance to see it at the premiere and that plan will stay the same. I will get to see this film in two great locales!!

I was there, my beautiful husband organised tickets for me as a surprise. It was an incredible night and I fully intend to see it the way it needs to be seen, on the biggest screen possible.

Will Star Trek continue to be screened in subsequent weeks?
    • Star Trek will be screened in subsequent weeks after opening on May 7, but it all depends on how popular the film is with audiences as to the length of the season here at IMAX in Darling Harbour. I'm guessing it's going to be quite a popular title (that's an understatement!) but still, don't leave it too late to buy your tickets...
