Transformers 2 Filmed In Part With IMAX Cameras

Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots return for the live-action follow up to Michael Bay's 2007 blockbuster TRANSFORMERS.

Key sequences of the film will be shot using IMAX® cameras. The IMAX footage will be integrated with the traditional 35mm format. The 35mm footage will be digitally re-mastered into The IMAX Experience® using IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The IMAX DMR scenes will appear in the traditional "letterbox" shape, while scenes shot with IMAX’s cameras will expand vertically to fill the entire IMAX screen.

“You will see Devastator in IMAX,” director Michael Bay said of the massive Decepticon, glimpsed in the trailer and formed when several Decepticons come together. “You heard it here first.”

Transformers 2 is due to start at the IMAX Theatre in Darling Harbour on June 25.

Like The Dark Knight, Transformers 2 will expand vertically in key scenes to fill the entire IMAX screen - that's 8 storeys high. This will be only the second time IAMX 15/70mm film has been used in a major feature film release. Should look great! We're looking forward to it too!
