Egypt 3D Teacher Previews

Were you one of the 700 people who attended the Teacher Previews for EGYPT 3D: Secrets of the Mummies?

Teacher previews allow educators an opportunity to experience films before they are released to the public, to assess their educational content and draw links with curriculum areas and other potential excursion venues. As a bonus with our previews for the new film Egypt 3D: Secrets of the Mummies, teachers had the opportunity to bring along 3 friends or family members – FREE! Thanks to all those who attended our recent screenings and extra special thanks to those who completed the online survey afterwards.

It was clear from the comments that many people were interested in the opportunity to create a full day excursion by combining a screening of Egypt 3D at IMAX with a visit to the Australian’s Museum’s exhibition, Egyptian Treasures: Art of the Pharaohs which runs from 13 September – 6 December 2009.

Garry Tilley (second from right) from Seaforth PS and Brett Pyemont (far right) from Jamison HS enjoy pre-preview snacks on the boardwalk with friends and colleagues before a preview screening of Egypt 3D.

Garry and Brett first starting coming to previews around the time of the launch of one of our space films, featuring astronaut Pamela Melroy as guest speaker. That must be at least 10 years ago, or so... We hope to be able to arrange another very special guest when we release Hubble 3D in 2010. Any requests for the special guest speaker for Hubble 3D Teacher Preview? Let us know via the blog!

We received some great feedback from teachers about Egypt 3D and we’d like to share a few comments with you:

“You felt like you were there- walking through the columns-almost getting sand in your eyes!” Vicki Jones, Matraville Soldiers' Settlement PS

“3D is the absolute best visually. I was riveted and I'm sure students would be too, thus making it extremely educational. …Very positive experience as all the seats have a great view. We were treated very well. The film was extremely intriguing and visually exciting. Both my teenage son and myself were mesmerised.” Marie Stockinger, William Carey Christian School

“The re-enactment of finding the treasures from the Valley of the Kings was very educational. The detail of mummification was of great interest as well. All very well done!!” Sherry Marshall, Marshall Home School.

“The 3D imagery made you feel like you were really walking the colonnades and gave a very realistic sense of perspective of the country and grandeur of the architecture. …It is certainly a very valuable teaching aid for any unit on Ancient Egypt.” Julie Goodsir, Barker College

“3D makes the film more realistic, as if you were there at the time. Some students who are only mildly interested in the topic will definitely not fall asleep. They will be converted to be interested and impressed.” Ka Yin Wong, Canterbury Public School

“I always find the staff helpful and courteous. The films are relevant and entertaining. I appreciate very much the opportunity to attend teacher previews. They are invaluable. Well done to the theatre for providing this service.” Rob Archer, St. George Christian School

“It is really good to be able to preview what can be on offer from IMAX. I always go back to the Campus feeling enthused and pass the IMAX information on to other staff as well.” Peter Weston, Granville TAFE.

Of course there were those for whom Egypt 3D was not their cup of tea (“boring”, “academic”, “not engaging enough for primary students”…). Everyone has a different experience and viewpoint about the films, but this just confirms the value of attending teacher previews - come along and decide for yourself!

In the case of Egypt 3D, the positive feedback certainly out numbered anything to the contrary, but we do appreciate the honesty and constructive nature of all comments. Thank you teachers!
