AVATAR PREVIEW EVENT - See a 15 minute sneak peek of AVATAR in IMAX 3D on the World's Biggest Cinema Screen
Monday, August 17 by Julie Brown
On August 21, fans have the chance to experience a sneak preview of 15 mins of footage from James Cameron's film AVATAR in IMAX 3D - on the World’s Biggest Cinema Screen! With thanks to 20th Century Fox, the LG IMAX Theatre Sydney will take part in the global “Avatar Preview Event" at which the world will have its first theatrical look at 3D footage from the film.
IMAX in Darling Harbour has 75 DOUBLE PASSES to give away to a screening featuring 15 minutes of Avatar footage in IMAX 3D.
Date: Friday 21 August 2009
Time: 5.00pm (arrive 4.30pm)
Location: LG IMAX Theatre Sydney
31 Wheat Rd Darling Harbour
In the epic action adventure AVATAR, James Cameron, the director of “Titanic,” takes us to a spectacular new world beyond our imagination. On the distant moon Pandora, a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization.
The film was first conceived by Cameron 14 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of actual production work, AVATAR delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film, disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.
Tickets to the session will be awarded to 75 lucky fans, drawn at random from the list of correct entries. So, if you’re not sure about the name of the "distant moon" featured in the film, you’d better find out what it is now!

-
chris e 901 years agoJust 15 minutes (or 16, including James Cameron's video introduction). A lot of press will be there at the Sydney IMAX screening.
-
Cory 898 years agoI'm sure there will be a lot of advertising for the toy line and video game etc. It's a liscencing marketers wet dream. Anyone at the screening will likely be in their seat for over an hour.

Forrest 900 years agoHow many seats is Darling Harbour IMAX? 75 double passes seems like a very small number...are there going to be that many press there?
-
-
chris e 900 years agoJosh: Enter anyway. You may not be. Forrest: I think there are 550 seats at IMAX Darling Harbour.

Ticketplease 899 years agoI think IMAX should release single pass instead of double p***. People just get entry individually and it'll give more people the chance to see it.

Julie Brown, IMAX Theatre Sydney 899 years agoAVATAR PREVIEW EVENT WINNERS DRAWN
Winners have now been drawn and notified by email. You should have received your email invitation by now if you were one of the 75 people selected at random to attend. Thanks everyone for participating and BIG congratulations to all those winners! -
Felix 899 years agoOh well I guess I didnt win :(. Thanks for the info Julie, but IMO, I still think FOX Australia botched this event across the board! This is the ONLY country you can even get these tickets through competitions or random drawings, which sucks. I just found out in New Zealand, the places that are showing it, they are having multiple sessions for two days and you just show up 45 mins for a ticket and see it that way. Anyway, congrats to everyone who did win!!

chris e 899 years ago"This is the ONLY country you can even get these tickets through competitions or random drawings" Actually, it's not. In a lot of countries Avatar Day has been ran this way.
-
Tony 899 years agoStill seem a shoddy way to host the event. Shouldve been first come, first serve like most.

Julie Brown, IMAX Theatre Sydney 898 years agoYes, they have, by email. If you haven't been lucky this time, you'll certainly have a chance to see the film soon enough. Starts Dec 17.

chris e 897 years agoYou can see a good quality version at Apple.com/trailers. Looks like a really awesome sci-fi cartoon. The aerial combat sequences are going to be really exhilarating in IMAX 3D, that's for sure.

Julie Brown, IMAX Theatre Sydney 897 years agoThanks for the tip! The trailer at that site is a good one, so I've posted a new story on our blog with it featured. Did you receive tickets for the Preview Event?
