Dissapointing that they cancelled the 3D version of Part I. It would still be good in 2D though. I would have perfered that the films were shot in 3D and not converted to 3D post production.

    I agree

but why did they cancel the 3D?

Because the production company ran out of time to do it properly, and felt it would be better to release the film in 2D rather than doing a dodgy 3D job

With most 3D films, special cameras are used. For a 3D conversion, they take 2D fooage and manipulate it with a computer to give it left eye/right eye images. You have to convert each frame individually, thus the process is time consuming. Disney did it for Alice in Wonderland believe it or not, and while that film was good in 3D, many conversions can be dogy. WB ran out of time, and even admitted the result was poor quality, whic is why they canceled the 3D version.

well i would rather a 2D than a dodgy 3D version. It'll just dampen my thoughts on the movie, and i love harry potter waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much to want to think of the movie in that way.
