Alice provides an interesting new role model for girls

Interest in Alice in Wonderland 3D from schools has not surprised us here at IMAX. While few feature films tick all the boxes when it comes to school excursions (after all, educational content is obviously the highest priority for teachers when planning out of the classroom experiences) Alice in Wonderland 3D has certainly bucked the trend.

Over 2000 students have been booked to see the film as part of our education program for schools here at the Theatre in Darling Harbour.

Alice, played by Australian actress Mia Wasikowska, is not your traditional 19 year old girl by any means. Her indepedence, curiosity and spirited desire to follow her dreams, provides young girls today with an interesting new role model.

SPACE STATION 3D to be retired and replaced by HUBBLE 3D

Popular educational title SPACE STATION 3D has been been running continuously as part of our our school library for the past 10 years and it's time for the print to be retired and replaced by newcomer HUBBLE 3D. Close to 100,000 students have seen Space Station 3D in its lifetime here in Darling Harbour, making it one of our top educational films (second only after Shackleton's Antarctic Adventure).

With Hubble 3D, teachers and students have a unique opportunity to not travel into space but also see images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope... images that when presented eight storeys high on the giant IMAX screen, will simply take your breath away. Astronaut Mike Massimino, one of the seven who flew aboard the shuttle Atlantis on a daring bid to rescue and repair the Hubble Space Telescope last year, saw the footage for the first time last year, prompting this emotional response:

Did you attend the Darling Harbour Open Day for Teachers on 21 March? If you did, you were one of over a thousand teachers who came along to Darling Harbour to preview FREE the extensive range of educational facilities available for schools.

Celebrate the End of the 2009 School Year with A Christmas Carol 3D

Starting on November 5 this year is the feature film adaptation of A Christmas Carol in IMAX 3D. The film is based on the classic Charles Dickens tale about an old miser who must face Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet-to-Come, as they help to bring kindness to his otherwise cold heart. The Ghosts remind him of the man he used to be, the hard truth of what the world is today, and what will happen if he does not strive to be a better man. Set around Christmas, the most joyous day of the year, Scrooge realizes the sharp contrast of his own personality.
